Personalized Education
School for Independent Learners (SIL) offers full-time and part-time programs for students to complete high school coursework. We utilize one-to-one or small group teaching and a mastery learning approach to insure success. Whether you’re a student who prefers individualized instruction at your own pace, someone seeking greater intellectual challenge, or you have an extracurricular commitment or health issues that require flexible scheduling, we can design a school program that fits your needs.
Students in our full-time school are looking to customize their entire education. All courses taught at our school are UC Approved (go to “Academics” or www.ucop.edu/doorways to see a list of UC approved courses) and will meet requirements for college eligibility. Our requirements for high-school graduation exceed those designated by the State of California, and our graduates have been admitted to UC/CSU and private colleges throughout the United States. We provide full-time students with opportunities for extracurricular activities, physical education, elective classes, and community service.
Our part-time program is for students who want to remain in their current school, but are looking for individual or small group instruction in one or more classes. As in our full time program, all classes count towards high school graduation and college eligibility, and we work closely with local schools to stay current with their requirements.
Accreditations:
The main branch in Los Altos has been granted full accreditation by Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), and the East Bay Branch has been granted candidacy. All students who take courses at the East Bay branch will be provided with WASC accredited transcripts under the sponsorship of SIL Los Altos. All courses have been approved by the University of California.
